This September, our nation and our world has been devastated yet again by natural disaster. In the past couple of weeks, Hurricane Harvey zipped through Houston, Texas, while Hurricane Jose roared through Puerto Rico. Hurricane Irma is projected to hit the state of Florida today and race through the Eastern shore board. But wait, that's not all. We have been told here in Atlanta to get prepared for a storm like no other as Irma is heading for us too.
Life, in  my opinion, is like a hurricane. You're unsure of how the tides will turn and what the winds may bring. Life and hurricanes are one in the same. There's really only one thing you can do to "prepare," and that is LIVE! Live a life of good, live a life of accomplishment, live a life of trial and error. As life hits you hard, you may feel devastated for a while, but you can and must rebuild after the storm. Do not let bad relationships, loss of a job, death of family members or friends, financial hardships or any other unpleasant storm kill your joy because we still have life to live after it passes. Here's what I did in preparation for Irma and to show my life who's really in control:

1. BOught Some Bomb, new makeup ! Duh!

I don't wear makeup often, but what girl doesn't love something new and shiny? I've been indulging in new brands; ranging from SUPER cheap to fairly WTF ARE YOU THINKING? Honestly, they generally all work the same, but I love adding to my collection. As I get new products and new brushes, I'm learning how to use and apply them. Stay tuned for my new looks ;p

2. woke up early and played in my new makeup

L.A. Girl Pro Concealer, Mary Kay Timewise Foundation in Bronze 3, E.L.F Baked Highlighter in Apricot Glow, M.A.C Cosmetics Hearts-A-Flutter Eyeshadow, E.L.F Wine Not Smudge Pot, Marc Jacobs Black Eyeliner & Tarte tarteist lip paint.

4. headed to a new spot for brunch

Cafe 458 is a super cute spot in the heart of Edgewood. The workers and servers are all volunteers and the brunch proceeds go towards the benefit of the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency. Pictured below is the chicken and waffles, as well as the french toast. Everything was delicious. The staff was pleasant. You know what else? They had free drink refills! Let's gooooooooo!

3. Put on a new outfit and went to a new church

Today, we explored Impact church. This church family is dedicated to volunteerism and being an amazing you. Although I did not agree with the sermon or how it tied into Biblical teaching, I was glad that I was in the presence of the Lord. I was right where I needed to be at the time.

5. supported a black owned business

God is Dope is a small boutique in Edgewood that features a number of stylish products referencing the phrase, "God is Dope." The ambiance was lit, the girl running the boutique was really sweet and the clothing was affordable. Can't wait to wear my new dad hat.
