Life's Little Pleasures

"Sometimes my bag is secure; Sometimes it's not."
- Meeting With Megs

It's hard to go out and to do all of the awesome things you would like to do without having money to do it. No, money cannot buy happiness, but the world does run on the almighty dollar bill. As things began to look up financially, I decided to invest my money wisely and to do things for myself. I dedicated November to living! Get out there! I created a budget and opened a new bank account, but I also spent this month catching up with old friends and making new ones to juice up my time in Atlanta. Life is an awful place to be or to feel alone.

Between hot tub soirees, late night kick backs, family dinners and artsy fartsy dates, I spent my time creating new artwork and content, so stay tuned!
The best is yet to come! Read more for insider details on the hottest things to do in the city of Atlanta, GA. *cues T.I'*

The High Museum of Art

Every first Saturday of the month, Bank of America card users are offered free admission into specific, local museums. I decided to enjoy this perk with a couple of friends. We headed to the museum on opening weekend for two great exhibits; Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design & “A Fire That No Water Could Put Out”: Civil Rights Photography.
These two exhibits showed an inferior people pushing their way through the world; infiltrating it with their minds, power and creativity.

The exhibition offers a vision of Africa in the twenty-first century as a place of unbounded optimism, rapid growth, and massive cultural transformation and presents the continent as a hub of experimentation that generates innovative design approaches and solutions with worldwide relevance. Making Africa focuses on a generation of entrepreneurs, thinkers, and designers from and within Africa who address a global audience and provide the world with a new vantage point on their continent. The exhibition also illustrates how the artists use their work to effect significant economic, social, and political change.

Influence 101

What better way to meet people than at an event hosted by and for influential women with similar interests? Influence 101 was held at Open for Business Co-Working Space. There, a number of bloggers and influencers came together for an afternoon of thought provoking conversation; networking; panel discussions and product/service giveaways. For the low price of $15, I was introduced to new blogs; new colleagues and new ideas that can potentially increase my social presence as an upcoming blogger.

The event was hosted by the Atlanta chapter of Black Bloggers United (@bbuatlanta), in collaboration with @Curlfluence. The panelists were @modernlymichelle, @meetingwithmegs, & @shopfemmenoire. These women are not only talented, but had so much insight to running a blog and being a brand! Plus, the natural product giveaways were amazing! I cannot wait to test out my hair and skin products by @shopfemmenoire & @tailoredbeauty! Thank you ladies for an awesome experience!

Cafe 458

Picture
In a previous post, I told you all about a cute cafe that Titziana found for brunch. For those of you who did not tune in, Cafe 458 is an all volunteer restaurant that benefits the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency. The center empowers "financially vulnerable individuals," and encourages them to get back on their feet and integrated into society.

We enjoyed our experience as guests of the cafe, but it was rewarding to give back to our community and volunteer. We spent a 9am-4pm shift serving, cleaning and running the restaurant. All of the proceeds from the day were donated straight to the center. I wasn't upset that I couldn't keep my tips because it was for a great cause and overall, we had fun! Plus, the buffet after the shift was filled with crowd favorites! I can't wait to go back.

Tia & Tyra Take 24

My freshman year at Hampton University was a movie. I enjoyed every moment of my experience, but it was my dorm mates and friends that made Hampton what it was for me. Two girls that stayed with me in Twitchell Hall are named Tia and Tyra Cooper. They are literally the coolest set of twins that I have ever met! I loved them individually and as a team. In school, they encouraged me to work out, hit the clubs and even did my weaves for me.

Five years later, we are back at it, living in Atlanta. For their 24th birthday, they planned a weekend of turning up and good times. Seeing them again was phenomenal. It has been so long so I was glad that we were able to connect like nothing had changed. While at their house party, I met some awesome people too and I hope we keep in touch. New friends never hurt anybody! Drinks, hookah, card games, dancing, music food, and good people; thanks for this!

HAwks vs. Knicks

Picture

That awkward moment when the Hawks cheerleaders are haters :p
Picture
Alright, alright, alright... We all know the Knicks haven't been the winning team that they were since... 2000 maybe, but my daddy is still, and always will be, a true KNICKS FAN! So when the Knicks come to town, it's only right that my daddy is in the crowd.

I bought tickets to the game for myself and my parents and I really enjoyed myself. I'm not really sportsy, but experience is everything. My dad was in the zone and my mom was more into the game than both of us. I spent the entire night cheering, laughing and surrounded by love. I teased the Hawks fans and stayed strong in my Knicks jersey as the Knicks lost their 17 point lead to eventually lose the game! I bought $7 pizza and a $19 chicken finger platter. We shared $8 endless popcorn and bonded as a family.

Although I am older now, nothing makes me happier than spending time with the two that have given me everything. I am who I am thanks to them, and they deserve the world. My parents are truly world class and I am so thankful to be able to treat them to experience such as this.

Hardly home, but always reppin'! New York state of mind until the death of me.
